Portland-Boston train service scheduled to open Dec. 15
A landmark day is approaching for climate change conscious commuters in New England. On December 15th, Amtrak is scheduled to open service between Portland and Boston. The route will include stops in Saco and Wells in Maine; Dover, Durham and Exeter in New Hampshire; and Haverhill, Mass. But what remains to be seen is how many people set aside their automobiles for the train. The Associated Press has the story.

Maine opens new filling station for propane vehicles
A new propane filling station will open this week in Augusta, Maine. One has already been built in Portland. The new station was built by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection and the Dead River Company to encourage people to buy cleaner burning propane-fueled cars. Study confirms Mars once covered by vast oceans
The mystery behind how Mars - once covered by oceans of liquid water - became the barren, foreboding place it is today has long interested researchers studying the Earth's own climate system. Automakers skeptical about SUV fuel economy target
Ford Motor Company, run by the environmentally minded William Clay Ford Jr., has pledged a 25 percent improvement in the fuel economy its Sport Utility Vehicles by 2005. But other automakers aren't so sure that goal can be met by Ford - or anyone else. The New York Times has the story.
