Future of New Hampshire coal power plants debated
New Hampshire environmentalists and politicians continue to debate efforts to cut emissions from the state's three worst polluting power plants. Some back a plan to allow Public Service Company of New Hampshire, which owns the plants, to chose between installing costly new pollution controls or paying for the right to continue running the plants as they are. The Concord Monitor has a story about a recent public hearing on the issue. On Tuesday, the newspaper noted in a separate story that environmental groups in the state are split over the best way to approach the problem.

EPA files Clean Air complaint against Cumberland Farms
The Environmental Protection Agency has filed a complaint against Cumberland Farms alleging Clean Air Act violations at 80 of its gas stations in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island between 1995 and 2000. See this EPA Press release for details.

Two Connecticut schools buy into "green" power
Connecticut College, and now Wesleyan University, have signed up to buy "green" power electricity produced from wind and hydroelectric generators sold through the Connecticut Energy Cooperative. Read more about the greening of these college campuses on the New Haven Register Web site.

World Nations seal climate pact without U.S.
One hundred and sixty-five nations, minus the United States, have approved a full set of rules on how to enforce the 1997 Kyoto Protocol aimed at cutting emissions of greenhouse gases blamed for global warming.
