Latest global climate conference underway
This week nearly 4,000 delegates from more than 160 countries and non-governmental organizations are participating in the 7th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The meeting is intended to cement the rules for how countries "count, monitor, verify and report" anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases that researchers say are gradually raising the world‰s thermostat. In separate stories, reporters for The Associated Press, Reuters, Earth Times, and the New York Times preview the events ahead this week. The New York Times Web site is free but requires registration.

Stung by shortages, San Francisco eyes renewable energy
Impacted by the California energy crunch, San Francisco residents are pondering a voter proposition that would establish the largest city-run renewable energy project in the United States. National Public Radio's environmental news program, Living on Earth, takes a closer look at the plan, which would have the city erect solar panels and wind turbines to help power its municipal facilities. Scroll down to "California Sun" for both text and audio versions of the report.
