Clean Air Act
Definition:
Law enacted in 1963 to provide permanent federal support for air pollution research, and assistance to states in establishing their air pollution control agencies. Not until the 1970 Clean Air Act Amendments were there Federal guidelines establishing the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). Subsequent amendments to the Clean Air Act have established stricter NAAQS.
